Yay! I made up for the missed mileage from last week. There wasn't too much out of the ordinary happening for me this week. I had a really good training week, a great week at work, took a couple of solid naps and have been VERY mindful of my diet!

All week, across the state of Alabama, we have had some pretty bad storms...
Running outside has been almost impossible. I've logged a few extra miles on the treadmill. However, we managed to get our long run in Saturday morning with very little rain! We still had 94% humidity and light misting so needless to say, we were SOAKED but even at that, we had a great 11-mile run and post-run coffee. :)

Post run Coffee!
So far so good with my training...I'm having fun documenting my progress and my set backs. Next week, my training calls for a 9 mile long run. Hopefully, the weather will be much better this week and we will be able to get those miles in!

As for tonight, I'm off to snooze! I have a 4am wakeup call to start my workouts....Good night!

Happy Running, Happy Training and Happy Sunshine!
After the storms...
Ready for some sunshine next week!

Chicago Marathon Training Week 2

Week #2....How Did I do??

I'll be honest. I didn't do as great this week as I did last week....
At least with my running and mileage.
I came up 2 miles short.
However, my workouts were great! Overall, I feel strong so I'm not worried about a few missed miles....

My Week 2 Training plan called for:
45 minutes (running or cross training)
45 minutes (running or cross training)
4 miles
7 miles

The Training that I did this week....
Sunday---
One hour YCross
3 mile run.

Monday---
45 min YCross
45 min YCross
45 min Spin Class

Tuesday---
One hour Bootcamp

Wednesday---
45 min YCross
45 min YCross

Thursday---
Rest

Friday---
45 min Circuit Bootcamp
3.5 mile run

Saturday---
3.1 mile 5K (Fultondale Stampede 5k)

I had a really good week this week! I was super busy with work...picked up a new client to personal train, officially got registered for Atlanta Mania in July and enjoyed all of my workouts! I ended the week with the Fultondale Stampede 5K in Fultondale, Al. I felt like I was running on rested legs and even won 3rd place in my age group! I totally won that award even though I really didn't deserve it. There were only four people in my age group and I was super slow...a 30 minute 5k probably shouldn't be worthy of winning awards. Either way, I had a great run in the heat and humidity and I was just glad to finish without any major issues.

Next weekend, I'm planning on running a long run with my running group and just logging the miles. I'm ready to sweat!!

One hour of Bootcamp in my Backyard!

Ready to run the Fultondale Stampede 5K!

Yay! I won 3rd place in my age Group! LOL.

Horse Plaque.

Cool Chicks. :))

Some of my running group after the race!
I'm looking forward to next week! I've got a light workout schedule ahead as well as light mileage...I plan on making up some of the mileage from last week....

Happy Running and Happy Training!

In Between Workouts.

Acountability...check! #ChicagoMarathon #DopeyChallenge #WeekOne

So...Week #1? How did I do?

My first week of Chicago Marathon Training called for:

45 minutes cross training/run
45 minutes cross training/run
3 mile run
Tallulah Half Marathon 13.1 mile run

The training that I did....

30 Min Spin Class
45 min YCross Class
1 hour Bootcamp class
3 mile run
45 minute YCross class
4 mile run
45 minute YCross class
1 hour Bootcamp class
13.1 mile run

I got in all of the mileage and then some...

I started the week off doing what I do...I teach several fitness classes each week. I only listed the ones above that I actually did with my class. The others throughout the week, I played drill sergeant and just took a step back and watched and coached and yelled. LOL.

On Wednesday, I celebrated Global Running Day with one of my best gal pals...we ran a super easy 3 miles, chatting the whole way.

On Thursday, I stopped in to Vida Flo Birmingham and received a pre-Half Marathon IV Hydration Therapy Treatment. My one liter bag contained lots of B Vitamins, Glutathione and I'm really glad that I did...I had a great race on Saturday aside from one little injury the night before.

Injury update: Someone dropped a folding table onto my big toe Friday night and my toe is badly bruised to say the least. I won't even entertain the fact that is could be broken. Nope. Not happening. I ran on it and it hurrrrrrrt like a mother. But I finished my race. I'm going with the diagnosis of badly bruised and we are just going to leave it at that. I taught a class today and wanted to chop my toe off it hurt so bad but other than that, I'm good. ugh.

Tuesday and Thursday evenings, I have started my Backyard Bootcamp up again. It has felt really good to get outside and sweat it out! These are two of my favorite hours of my whole week....Love my girlfriend time!

Last but not least I ran the Tallulah Half Marathon in Jasper, Al. on Saturday. It was a hot and hilly race and I ran it nice and slow...I felt great afterwards. I had a full night with friends planned so I was glad to run the race and then move on to the rest of my weekend! I quietly celebrated the fact that it was my 50th Half Marathon. I'm pretty proud of that accomplishment and I didn't want to make a big deal about it to anyone....Lately, I don't want to share too much on social media for personal reasons but I will say that I treated myself to a "good job, girlie" prize for myself. :))))

Overall, I had a really good first training week and I'm also glad that I made the decision to hold myself accountable to track my runs/workouts.

Happy Running, Happy Training and Happy #WeekTwo!

Monday. Please Go Away.

What started out as being a really good day, went south real quick.

In a nutshell, I'm just tired today. Anything and everything that could go wrong...went wrong.
I had a reality slap today at work and I just couldn't get it out of my mind all day. I stopped by my local gym on my way home to get a few miles in. Honestly, I wanted to just go home and take a bubble bath. But. I ran.

Glad I did.

The bubble bath is not happening. I'm too tired to eat. Too tired to take a bath. I'm just tired.

I'm ready for Monday to just go away. Tuesday is another day.

Happy Running...just not today.

My Chicago Marathon/Dopey Challenge Training Plan

50th Half Marathon Medal is in sight!
Starting my Marathon Training off the BEST way!!
I'm in love with the fact that I'm about to start my official Chicago Marathon/Dopey Challenge Training plan again.  I have been a little bit of a lost puppy since I crossed the finish line last January at Disney. I've been floating through my weekend and weekly runs with no real goal in sight. And haven't really cared either. I've had wayyyyyyyy too much fun running over the past few weekends with one of my best gal pals.....we have really narrowed down our goals, our diets and workout plans.

My hip has been killlllllllling me so I'm definitely not complaining that I've eased up on my running a bit. Physical Therapy, a visit to the chiropractor and a massage are in my very near future. I have been scared to death to go to therapy because I just don't want to hear bad news but I'm facing my fears this week and am going. I also scheduled a spa appointment...good grief. I've got a new me in the works!

My goal for Chicago Marathon is to finish STRONG with my girlfriends....I have ZERO plans for a finish time. We are headed to Chicago for a super fun weekend and I want ZERO running pressure. The last time I ran it, I had the clock in my brain and I vowed that I would never run that race again with finish time pressures. I want to soak in the city. I want to run a fun race.  I really {heart} Chicago and want to run strong enough but I also want to have fun with it. I have made so many fun memories in this city and I want to make so many more!

So here we go......I'm kicking off my training plan with a Half Marathon. Tallulah Half Marathon in Sweet Home Alabama. #BOOM.

And not just any half marathon. This will be #50 for me.  I had no idea which Half Marathon would be my 50th...but this is kinda cool. It's like a big deal that's not really a big deal. The bigger deal is in sight. Chicago Marathon AND my 5th Dopey Challenge (48.6 miles) are just ridiculously a sweet package deal. I'm excited to say the least.....so excited that I went shopping today and bought a new running skirt to train in. #PurpleSkirtForTheWin ;)

Listed below I have mapped out my training plan as best that I can for both races...this is a 31 week commitment. I'm READY. I like having a plan but as I've said before in the years past, I definitely don't beat myself up if I miss a training run or so. I work in the gym all day/every day so some days I just cannot fit in a run. However, I've listed 45 minutes (which I'll either use for either cross training or running) to cover my butt. I teach Bootcamp, YCross, Spin, Weights class at least 12-15 hours per week so I'm trying to count at least a few of those classes towards my mileage.

     Does that even make sense???

I hope my training plan makes sense.  I really do love running and training. I love my job. I love mixing my running/training/job all together. I could not be more thankful for the way that my hobbies and job and have come together....This training season will be my most fun yet. I've taken on a few new classes and am looking forward to my workouts/runs/trainings for the next 31 weeks.

I am going to hold myself accountable through my training this year and update my blog weekly with my workouts/runs etc...I've never done that before consistently but this has really been tugging on my heart and I've decided to pay a little more attention to the details of my training and not just push through to the finish line.

Thank you in advance for following along and I hope to see you all on the road, in Chicago, in Orlando or in the gym!

My New York City Marathon & Dopey Challenge Training Plan

I can't believe that I'm actually typing out my New York City Marathon and Dopey Challenge Training Plan!! eeeeekkk!! This is really happening. And I'm still just in shock that I'm registered for New York City Marathon!!!! And Dopey Challenge, this will be my fourth time. I can't get enough of the 48.6 miles....clearly i've lost my Dopey mind! Lol.

I posted a very similar post in 2014 when I was training for Dopey Challenge and Chicago Marathon at the same time. I've tweaked that schedule to fit my current running schedule. I have a few races scheduled and plan on adding more.

I also gave myself a few extra weeks to train. Because Kids. Family obligations. Holidays. Life in general. And I'll be real honest..somedays I just don't feel like training. I know that's probably not the best thing to include in a training schedule post but it's the truth. Training for a marathon is exhausting. I can't be effective if I'm exhausted. If I'm exhausted, I need to take a break. So I included time to take a break. I refuse to beat myself up if I miss a run here or there.

I"m excited to finally be able to say "I'm officially in training for New York City Marathon"!! Seriously, it's just the coolest thing EVER to me. I'm ready to train.

I have each week listed and have minutes and miles on the calendar. Depending on my day, time limits and mood, I will either run 3 or 4 miles or 45 minutes.  My job keeps me in the gym all day and there are days when I work out for 6-7 hours. While that sounds like running should be easy, somedays it's just hard to get a run in.

So here is my training schedule. I'm starting out with a Half Marathon. BAM!! Normally, I would not do that but this is the inaugural year for this race and it's getting HOT here in Bama...we don't have a whole lot of summer race options so I'm going to use this race as a way to log 13.1 hot miles and earn some bling in the process. ;)

I don't have the days listed in which I will need to run. As long as I get the miles in, it does not make a difference to me what days I run. I'm not that structured. Some days I wish I were. Most days, I'm glad I'm not that structured.

Another thing that I did in my schedule was after week 23, I started doubling up the mileage to prepare for back to back running days... i.e. half marathon on Saturday and full marathon the next day. Make sense??

So this is my schedule for now. I'm sure I will add things and change things as they come up. No stress! If you are reading this and are training for New York City Marathon AND Dopey Challenge, hopefully, you might be able to use this training schedule also!
